Day 3: Departing Fraser Island with Lady Elliot Island in our sights, the ocean had different ideas. With seas running rough, we made the call to divert to Lady Musgrave Island and it turned out to be the right one. We wrapped up the day with drinks on the beach at sunset, one of those moments that makes you glad things don’t always go to plan.

Day 4: Lady Musgrave delivered one of the best sunsets of the trip and then followed it up with an equally stunning sunrise. A true highlight so far. We departed at 7am, bound for Great Keppel Island. With swell forecast to build past two metres, we made the call to pull into Rosslyn Bay Marina, where we topped up the fuel and settled in for the night. The whole crew has booked dinner at a local restaurant, so a good evening ahead.

Welcome to Day 5 - 2026

Neptune Oceanic sets off on its annual voyage from the Gold Coast to the Whitsundays!

We were up before the sun on Day 5, and the light coming over the anchorage made the early start worth it. The run into the Whitsundays was slow going, but the boats took it in their stride, and we were anchored off Whitehaven Beach by mid-morning for lunch. The climb up to Hill Inlet came next. Looking back down over Whitehaven from the lookout, with the tide dragging white silica sand through the shallows, is the shot everyone comes north for. Blue Pearl Bay tonight if the wind allows. A fantastic trip so far.

The journey

Deport The Gold Coast
Deport The Gold Coast The adventure begins on home water as the fleet slips out of the Gold Coast and points north. From the first morning, owners cruise in company with expert crew aboard, settling into the rhythm of life at sea.
Lady Musgrave Island
Lady Musgrave Island The convoy drops anchor in the sheltered coral lagoon of Lady Musgrave, a pristine pocket of the southern Great Barrier Reef. It is a chance to swim, snorkel and take in one of the most untouched corners of the Queensland coast.
Cruising the Whitsundays
Cruising the Whitsundays The heart of the voyage unfolds across the Whitsunday Islands, where turquoise water meets white sand beaches. Owners explore secluded bays and quiet anchorages that few ever see from the deck of their own yacht.
Arrive into Airlie Beach
Arrive into Airlie Beach The journey draws to a close as the fleet arrives into Airlie Beach, the gateway to the Whitsundays. It is the perfect place to step ashore, raise a glass and reflect on the trip of a lifetime.
Scott Testimonial
SCOTT

For Scott, one of the biggest benefits is knowing the boat is ready when he arrives. The only things he needs to manage are bringing the food on and taking the rubbish off.

Andrew Testimonial
Andrew

For this owner, moving through the Neptune range has been a natural progression. The more they experienced the lifestyle, the more they appreciated the amenity and enjoyment that came with each boat.

Andrew Testimonial
Andrew

Andrew had looked at buying his own boat, but the maintenance, upkeep and organising involved made it difficult. Living interstate meant having the right contacts and keeping everything running could become a challenge.

Graham & Lisa Testimonial
Graham and Lisa

Having experienced another yacht-share model, Graham and Lisa knew what they were looking for. Their experience with Neptune has been a clear step up, particularly in the quality of preparation and attention to detail.

Niranga Testimonial
NIRANGA

For Niranga, the experience begins with the quality of the boats and the people behind them. Piers’ communication and honesty were important factors in the decision to move across, while the boats themselves made an immediate impression.

Frequently asked questions

How many days do I need in the Whitsundays?

Three nights covers Whitehaven, Hill Inlet and the Hook Island bays. Five nights adds the northern islands and enough slack to sit out a bad forecast day. Seven nights lets you include the outer reef, which needs a weather window you cannot schedule in advance.

May to October. August and September are the peak, with the clearest water, the most settled conditions and humpbacks in the passages.

In Queensland a recreational marine driver licence is required to operate a powered vessel above a set engine power threshold. Requirements change, so confirm the current position with Maritime Safety Queensland before you plan a trip.

Yes, and it is one of the great swims anywhere. Cid Harbour is the anchorage where swimming is not permitted. Between November and May a full stinger suit is needed in inshore waters.

No. Public moorings throughout the islands are free and first come first served, with time limits shown on each mooring tag. Marina berths at Hamilton Island do need booking.

Bait Reef is about thirty nautical miles from Airlie Beach and reachable on a settled forecast. It is public moorings only and sits inside a green zone, so no fishing. It is not a trip to make on a marginal forecast.

A one eighth share covers forty two days a year plus flexi days, with all management, berthing, maintenance and insurance included. Get in touch and we will send current pricing across the fleet.
